APRESENTAÇÃO

Between me and Alentejo there are no distance, only a river that connects us. Geographicaly speaking I was born in the northside of the river, but my soul has always been on the other side.

To go beyond the river is like entering  within myself. It's on that side that I meet my feelings and what makes me feel. It took many years to realize it, but this connection is undoubtedly a sign of the existence of my soul. The smells, the colors, the light and the depth of the scenery, links me as well as the  people, their manners, their songs and knowledge.  The local aromas and flavors, fill me.

The signs of this existence has always been present in me, but the “calling”  began to take shape with the purchase in 2006 of an old house that belonged to a distant relative. The recovery of this house was designed not only to ensure the family escapes from the city, but above all , to provide the meeting with the my genetic roots. It was in this regard that I preserved all the architectural elements related to local habits and manners history, as the terrace, fireplace room and the walls of plastered mud and whitewashed in white.

My professional relationship with the design and the arts in general, have also contributed to the demand of that existence on me, and  particularly with my passage in the Fine Arts college which deepened my interest in my roots and led me to make the exhibition “ Memórias de Cheiros Esquecidos”  (Forgotten memory of odours) that speaks of the cultural heritage and had the aim  to be remembered, shared and kept alived.

The old house recovered and named “bougainvillea” (a plant  offered by Mrs. Prazeres and planted by me in the house terrace) , it is nowadays much more than a family home. Gallery and crafts, guest house and embassy of Alentejo gastronomic culture, Bougainvillea house is the ideal place to dive into a real experience in the gerund time. (the alentejo´s time)
